SBI! -- Domain Name         List of Categories

  • Why does my Name Park It! (NPI!) domain redirect to the SiteSell.com home page?

The default destination for all new Name Park It! (NPI!) domains is to redirect to your main SBI! Web site. However, if you either purchased your NPI! before you registered a domain, or you are not an SBI! owner, then it will be redirected to the SiteSell.com home page.

Your affiliate link (RR URL) is automatically added to the URL, so that if any visitor purchases a product from SiteSell after visiting your NPI! redirect, you will be credited with the purchase.

The process for changing the redirect destination of your NPI! domain is easy...

    Part 1

If you are an SBIer, you have two options for this part of the process...

Option #1) Log into Site Central and using the QUICK JUMP drop-down menu, scroll down until you see the option for Name Park It!. Click on this and a screen titled Manage Domain Names will open.

Option #2) Scroll down to the Site Build It! BusinessCenter in Site Central and click the Name Park It! button. This will bring you to the same screen as above.

If you are not an SBI! owner...

Log into your 5P Club and select the Name Park It! option from the QUICK JUMP drop-down menu. This will bring you to a screen titled Manage Domain Names.

    Part 2

The section is the same for both SBIers and non-SBIers...

Step 1 -- After you reach the Name Park It! management screen, you will see another drop-down menu listing all of your parked domain names.

Step 2 -- Select the domain for which you wish to change the redirect.

Step 3 -- Click on Manage Parked Domain.

Step 4 -- Under the heading Redirect Domain Name, you will see a text box where you can change the destination for your NPI! domain. Enter the URL of the destination that you want it to go to and then click on the Redirect button to save the changes.

  • I received an e-mail from SiteSell asking me to update my WHOIS data. Do I have to do anything?

It is important that you keep your contact information, especially your e-mail address, current and correct in the WHOIS database. Not only are you legally obliged to do so, this type of monitoring will protect you should you ever misplace your login information.

We will, therefore, periodically send you an e-mail to remind you to update your contact information in the WHOIS database. The e-mail is sent from support@sitesell.com and has the subject, "WHOIS Data Confirmation for YOURDOMAIN."

Please take a moment to verify the information. If any changes are required, you can make these changes either on the Web site of our registration service provider...

    https://manage.opensrs.net/

...or by using the streamlined interface on our site...

    http://build.sitesell.com/manage.html

  • I mistakenly changed the technical contact information for my domain and need to change it back. What is the correct information to use?

Mistakes can happen. Reversing the change is the correct thing to do as you must have a valid technical contact listed for your domain. While the Admin and Billing Contact should be you, the technical contact should always be SiteSell.

Please change your technical contact information back to the following:

    First Name: SiteSell
    Last Name: Support
    Organization Name: SiteSell Inc.
    Street Address: PO Box 55071
    Address 2: CP Mackay
    City: Montreal
    State: QC
    Country Code: Canada
    Postal Code: H3G 1S0
    Phone Number: +1-514-849-0828
    Fax Number: +1-519-641-4521

  • Why is my personal information accessible in the WhoIs database?

The name and contact information of all domain owners is public information and is accessible through the WhoIs database. ICANN regulations stipulate that all WhoIs domain records must contain valid and up-to-date contact information of the domain owner. (ICANN is the official governing body in charge of the registration of .com, .org, .net, .biz and .info domains.)

If you are concerned about having your home address listed in the WhoIs database, you have several options...

o If you work outside the home, use your work address and phone number in your WhoIs registration.

o You could rent a P.O. Box and use it as your mailing address. You can register for a voice mail service that will forward your voice messages by e-mail and use that phone number as the contact phone number.

If you wish to modify your contact information in the WhoIs database, please see the following FAQ for detailed instructions...

    http://support.sitesell.com/faq/domain_name.html#03278937

When making changes to your domain registration data, please keep in mind...

While any domain registration record must contain a valid mailing address and phone number according to the ICANN regulations, it is most important that your e-mail address remains valid and up-to-date. E-mail is generally the first and most important mode of contact for anything related to your domain (ex., password recovery or domain expiry notifications).

  • How do I update my WhoIs/registrant contact information?

Updating your registrant contact information is easy to do. You will, however, need information from the "SBI! Mail" e-mail that was sent to you after you registered your domain name.

Please follow these steps carefully and all will go smoothly...

    1) Go to...

    http://build.sitesell.com/manage.html

Please do not alter the Technical Contact information. SiteSell is your Technical Contact so nothing needs to be changed.

    6) Click the Save Configuration button at the bottom of the screen.

  • What is my login information to manage my domain?

  • When I try to register my domain, it says my phone number has an improper format

When you register your domain, the phone number field is filled out with the phone number we have on file for you. Our database accepts your phone number in a variety of formats, but the registration form has very strict formatting rules. These rules are unfortunately out of our control.

The phone number has to follow this format:

    +1.123456789

    NOTE

    1) There must be a + sign at the beginning.
    2) The plus sign is followed by the country code, e.g. 1 for USA and Canada, 44 for the UK, 49 for Germany, etc.
    3) The country code is followed by a period.
    4) There must not be any other special characters (dashes, spaces, periods, etc.) in the rest of the phone number.

If you still cannot register your domain, please contact Support at...

  • My transfer seems to be stalled or it has failed. What do I do?

You are anxious and excited to get started with your business so a transfer delay or failure is understandably frustrating.

Your most important first step is to contact your current registrar. Please confirm that...

    1) The domain is not in a locked status.

    2) The e-mail address on file at the registrar is correct and operational (i.e., you can receive e-mail). (When the transfer process begins an e-mail is sent to the e-mail address connected to the domain registration. If you no longer check that e-mail address, you will not get these special instructions and your transfer will fail.)

    3) Your registrar is able to transfer your domain. (If the domain is less than 60 days old, it cannot be transferred.)

Next step? Contact our Customer Support through the form available at...

    http://support.sitesell.com/contact-support.html

Please provide the answers to the above questions plus this information...

    Original order #:
    Original domain (no longer wanted):
    First Name:
    Last Name:
    Address:
    State/Province:
    Country:
    Zip/Postal Code:
    Phone Number (with area code):
    E-mail:

Responsibility of a domain transfer is solely the responsibility of the owner of the domain. SiteSell can only initiate the request to your current host.

However, we will try our best to help you get past any hurdles along the way so that you can get back to building your business.

  • What extension should I use in my domain name?

SBI! supports domain names with these extensions...

    .com
    .org
    .net
    .info
    .co.uk
    .org.uk

We highly recommend a .com domain name (followed closely by .net, and .org if your business is an organization or institution). This is the best choice if your business is mostly global in nature (i.e., Internet-based). 'Dot com' still remains the most recognizable and desirable domain name extension, no matter where you are in the world!

  • When should I use hyphens in my domain?

If both versions of a 3-or-more-word domain are available (i.e., with and without hyphens) using dashes helps to make the word breaks more obvious to the eye. On top of that, Search Engines usually treat dashes as a space. So they are more likely see the entire string as separate words.

Others think, however, that the engines don't seem to care one way or the other. So use dashes if it helps readability. For example, which is easier to read?...

    pricing-on-the-net.com or... pricingonthenet.com

Generally, do not use dashes if your domain name has only two words in it. See how netpricing.com and cyberpricing.com don’t really need the help of a dash?

Do use dashes (even if the domain only has two words) if the non-dash version is already being used by someone else. But be sure that you are not violating anyone's trademark first.

Use the Search It! tool to double-check...

    http://searchit.sitesell.com/

Select Site Legalities in Step 1 and whichever type of trademark check in Step 2 that is appropriate for your situation.

Please keep in mind that if you promote your business heavily offline, hyphens can sometimes be problematic (i.e., you need to tell people how to spell it, people forget to use the dash(es) after reading your print ad, etc.).

Here’s the bottom line... domain names are so cheap that it’s a good idea to own both versions (with and without the hyphen), just to make sure that a competitor does not take names that could be confused with yours.

  • Who can help me select the right domain name?

The selection of a domain name is a big decision. Most SBIers feel the same sense of challenge/apprehension in DAY 5 of the process. Everyone wants to pinpoint the best possible domain name -- one that pleases both human visitors and Search Engine spiders.

Unfortunately, we cannot help you with your choice of a domain name as we have not done the necessary keyword research and we don't know your theme/site concept as well as you do. Any opinion we might have on the matter would be pure speculation at best. We do not want to lead you down the wrong road on the matter.

SBI! does offer some great resources to help you out...

If you have not already done so, please check out the official Site Build It! Forums. The forums are a free help-and-be-helped resource where SBIers meet to learn and share new ideas, and provide advice. Please login using your regular username and password...

You will find a specific forum there that meets your needs. Perhaps there is one that is already discussing issues like this one. Review the posts to see if you can find such an ongoing thread.

If not, post your query under the appropriate category -- some friendly, helpful and experienced SBIer will likely chip in shortly. You will find many knowledgeable and savvy users in the forums that are willing to help. If you have a good idea, suggestion, or comment, please return the favor to the forums... help someone else out.

  • How do I renew my domain name?

Automatic domain name renewal is included as part of your SBI! subscription. Always ignore official-looking renewal notices (arriving via e-mail or regular mail), from Netsol/Verisign, Domain Registry of Canada/America, and any others that you may receive.

  • Why can't I register my domain name?

Let's rule out potential speed bumps in the registration process...

    a) If you haven't done so already, please make sure the domain name is available. Please go to...

    http://www.betterwhois.com/

    b) Ensure that your order number is correct by double-checking your order confirmation e-mail (Subject line=Get Ready For SBI!).

    c) Make sure that there are no extra spaces preceding or following the order number entry.

    d) When you enter your domain name where requested, do not include www -- just the extension such as .com or .net or .org (ex., painting-solutions.com).

Now, please try again by following these steps...

    Step 1) Please go to...

    http://buildit.sitesell.com/register-domain.html

Step 2) Click on the appropriate buttons (TRANSFER EXISTING DOMAIN or REGISTER NEW DOMAIN).

Step 3) Enter your domain name in the browser window that Brainstorm It! opened and click on the Set Me Up button.

Step 4) Agree to the hosting agreement and then click on Register My Domain.

Step 5) After SBI! confirms your registration, the system will send you two automated e-mails -- the Subject lines are "Site Build It! is Ready for You!" and "SBI! MAIL".

If, by chance, your registration still fails, please contact Support at...

    http://support.sitesell.com/contact-support.html

Send the exact domain name you wish to register and indicate whether this is a new domain or a transfer of an existing domain. Please also include your order number.

Don't worry. We'll get you back to building your business as quickly as possible.

  • Can I transfer a domain that I already own to SBI!?

Yes, you can transfer an existing domain. However, we highly recommend that you carefully consider Ken's sound advice before you make your final decision. A domain name transfer is not recommended for most people because...

    1) When you brainstorm, you may very well find a more profitable domain. We know. We see it happen all the time. If you choose the wrong domain name and want to change, there is a substantial charge because it is a manual process.

    2) Your existing domain name may not be the perfect one for your new site. If you already know the theme of your site, ask yourself if your domain name reflects that theme well. And does it contain your most important keyword? If your answer is no to either of these questions, you'll be better off registering a new domain name.

    3) Transfers often entail tons of practical problems, all of them beyond our control, which cause a great deal of frustration and delays for you. For example...

    a) your registrar -- some are easier to deal with than others

    b) the security system -- you wouldn't want someone else to be able to transfer your domain to them, would you? Unfortunately, that puts all kinds of steps into the process that make it tricky and difficult. So it could take up to 5 days to transfer a domain if everything is in order, and much longer if things are not.

If you are still sure that you would like to transfer in your domain, please do some important verifications for your domain to make sure that your transfer will proceed without a hitch...

    1) Go to the WhoIs Look-up Tool of our registrar partner...

    http://resellers.tucows.com/whois

Enter your domain name (without www.) and click Lookup. Then enter the graphic challenge on the next page.

    2) Scroll down on the page with your WhoIs Information to find the domain status. The status should be either "ok" or "active." If the status is "locked," "clientTransferProhibited," "clientUpdateProhibited," "clientHold," or a combination of those, your domain is locked with your current registrar. Contact your current registrar to have your domain unlocked.

It is important that the WhoIs tool at our registrars shows that the domain is unlocked. A status change will take 24-48 to be propagated to all WhoIs servers. It is not sufficient that your current registrar confirms that the domain is unlocked.

    3) Find the Administrative Contact in your WhoIs record. Pay special attention to the e-mail address. Is it your own e-mail address? Is it still valid? Is your information hidden because you are using Domain Privacy?

The e-mail address of the Administrative Contact is where our registrar will send a confirmation e-mail. You must be able to receive e-mail at that address, or the transfer will fail. Domain privacy must also be disabled. If the Administrative e-mail address is incorrect or domain privacy is enabled, you need to contact your current registrar to update the information.

As with the domain status, any changes you make with your old registrar must be shown through a WhoIs Lookup at our registrar before the transfer can be started.

    4) When did you register your domain with your current registrar? Has it been at least 60 days? ICANN, the official governing body for domain registrations, stipulates that domains cannot be transferred to a new registrar for at least 60 days. It is not a rule of individual registrars and it cannot be overridden.

Once you confirm that the domain is unlocked, your Administrative address is correct, and the domain has been registered for at least 60 days with the current registrar, you can start the transfer of your domain here...

    http://buildit.sitesell.com/register-domain.html

You will need your order number from your original order confirmation.

If you need any help with the process, you can contact our Support Team here...

    http://support.sitesell.com/contact-support.html

Keep in mind, however, that many of the steps in the transfer process are simply out of our control. If any updates need to be made to your domain before it is transferred, you will need to contact the customer support department of your current registrar.

  • Can I change my domain name?

Yes, you can change your domain name. Please consider these important housekeeping details first before you make your final decision...

    1) A domain name replacement is not simply a change of the domain name on your existing Web site. Once the replacement has been processed, your original SBI! order/domain will be deactivated. You will need to register a new domain and begin building a new site (Look & Feel, home page, etc.)

    2) You may only process one domain name change per original order.

    3) The administrative fee is CAD$50.

After careful consideration, have you decided to continue with your domain name change? If so, the next step is to contact our Support staff at...

    http ://support.sitesell.com/contact-support.html

Please give our Support staff your original SBI! order number and your current domain name.

Please also provide the following information (it must match what is on file at your credit card company)...

    First Name:

    Last Name:

    Address:

    City:

    State/Province:

    Country:

    Zip/Postal Code:

    Phone Number (with area code):

    E-mail Address:

Important: Please do not enter your credit card information in the contact form.

A staff person will reply to you with the next set of instructions.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

  • How many domains can I register with my SBI!?

Each order of SBI! includes one domain and everything needed to plan, build, and manage your SBI! Web site... and your subscription includes one full year of Web Hosting, too!

Each additional site requires a separate order. The annual subscription starts on the date of purchase so each of your orders would have a unique renewal date.

When you are ready to register your second domain, (after having completed your keyword research at Brainstorm It!), follow the domain registration instructions in DAY 5 of the Action Guide from within Brainstorm It!.

This will automatically add your newest domain name to your Brainstorm It! domain list and to Site Central's domain drop-down menu. The next time you log into Site Build It! (same username and password as usual), you will be asked which domain you wish to work on during this session. Fast and easy access to both!

  • Can I use my SBI! domain name on another server?

The domain that you registered belongs to you so you can move the domain to any server. However, if you choose to do that, you can no longer use the SBI! system (and its traffic-building tools) for that domain.

If SBI! could possibly do what it does so well and let you host your domain at another Web host, it would be our greatest pleasure. However, there are 50+ sub modules in SBI! that make it as integrated and effective as it is. SBI! simply cannot work with domains registered at other companies.

If you still wish to transfer your domain, please follow these steps...

    1) Know your SBI! Mail username and password. Not sure if you remember correctly? This information is in the e-mail you received after you registered your domain name (Subject= SBI! MAIL).

    2) Go to...

    http://build.sitesell.com/manage.html

... and follow the instructions outlined there to transfer your domain.

If you didn't save your SBI! MAIL e-mail, no problem. Just ask Support to resend it...

    http://support.sitesell.com/contact-support.html

With your request, please include your order number and domain name.

Thank you in advance for this helpful information.

  • What happens to my renewal if I transfer an existing domain name to SBI!?

When you transfer an existing domain to SBI!, that domain name is automatically renewed for 1 year. For example...

If someone had 9 months left on their domain name before transferring it to SBI!, she or he would have an additional 12 months added to it once the transfer is completed.

This ensures that the domain name will never expire before your SBI! annual subscription is up.
